Exciting semifinals set the stage for the final day at Lake Jarun

The second day of the EUSA European Universities Rowing Championship brought another morning of intense racing and strong performances at Lake Jarun in Zagreb. With places in the finals at stake, student-athletes from across Europe pushed hard from the first stroke, making for a competitive and exciting session on the water.

The morning began with the Men’s Quadruple Sculls (M4x) semifinals. Dresden University of Technology won the first semifinal in 6:15.74, while University of Zagreb delivered a strong performance in the second, finishing second in 6:21.38, just 0.89 seconds behind Reading University. The result secured Zagreb a place in the A final.

The Women’s Single Sculls (W1x) followed, with RIT Croatia taking an impressive victory in its semifinal. RIT Croatia led the race from the opening 500 metres and crossed the finish line in 8:09.93, more than five seconds ahead of the University of Tartu. The win secured a place in the A final.

The competition continued with the Men’s Lightweight Single Sculls (LM1x). University of Technology of Compiègne took the first semifinal in 7:22.66, followed by University of Hamburg and the University of the West of England. In the second semifinal, University of Belgrade claimed first place in 7:32.72, ahead of the University of Porto and Széchenyi István University. The top three from each semifinal advanced to the A final.

The morning session concluded with the Men’s Single Sculls (M1x) semifinals. Reading University dominated the first group, winning in 7:25.06, while the University of Latvia produced the fastest time of the two semifinals, crossing the finish line in 7:21.23. Vytautas Magnus University and Queen’s University Belfast also secured their places in the A final from the second semifinal.

With the semifinal races complete, the finalists are now set and the competition is heading towards its decisive stage. After two days of racing, Lake Jarun has already witnessed close finishes, strong comebacks and plenty of determination, with athletes now preparing for the final battles for European university titles.

The final day of the EUSA European Universities Rowing Championship promises even more action as the finalists return to the water and fight for medals and the title of European university champions.
